Throughout my professional career, I have learned countless lessons and developed skills that I apply every day to my position as the Director of Training for ICADV. The time I dedicated to my education at Northern Illinois University equipped me well to independently manage training projects that are culturally competent.My professional development began early in my undergraduate career while I worked as a Community Advisor for NIU. In this position, I assisted residents individually while simultaneously fostering an inclusive environment for the development of the group. This position gave me hands-on experience in developing conflict mediation skills, knowledge of other cultures, beliefs and practices, and collaborating with other team members. These skills were further developed in my role as Communications Director for GSNI's camps. While initially hired primarily to manage external communication, I was quickly entrusted with conflict mediation responsibilities and staff relationship management. As the Communications Director, I utilized many of my emerging skills and strengthened them into high-impact skills. These high-impact skills include:• Stakeholder Management• Crisis Management• Digital Communications• Message Development• Social Media Marketing• Change ManagementFurther, I had the opportunity to hone all these organizational communication skills as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for NIU. In this role, I had two primary responsibilities: independently developing and instructing two sections of NIU's required public speaking course; and overseeing the Communication Skills Lab for Chance Program students. I had the great pleasure of enhancing my own skills in public speaking, training, and content development alongside my students.
