Emily Kalejs Qazilbash is a professor of practice in the Department of Education, Brown University. She is also affiliated with the Annenberg Institute of Reform at Brown. Emily previously worked in the Boston Public Schools as the Chief Human Capital Officer. In this role, she served on the superintendent's leadership team, ensuring that each Boston public school had an effective teacher in every classroom and an effective school leader in every school. She oversaw teams leading Recruitment and Diversity Programs, Strategic Staffing, Leadership Development, Evaluation & Performance Management, and Human Resources.Emily also served as Executive Director of the Office of Human Capital, a policy implementation specialist, and an educational researcher focused on teacher quality. She has consulted with a variety of organizations on issues such as teacher and principal evaluation, teachers unions, Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) programs, and teacher qualifications. Emily began her teaching career as a Teach for America corps member in Baltimore and subsequently taught at a Boston charter school. She also directed professional development programs for both new and experienced teachers in the Boston Public Schools. Emily earned her master's degree and doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she is a research affiliate with the Project on the Next Generation of Teachers (NGT).
