Hello hello! I’m here to champion science and art because they’re both beautiful women who need to stop being pit against each other. Here’s what I’ve learned from both.I’ve digitized old geological surveys, literally plotting the century-old footsteps of the founder of Bryn Mawr College’s geology department, and felt humbled walking in the research of my predecessors. My education taught me to be clear and transparent—accurate communication is critical in a community that constantly shares knowledge. I learned that I could give a voice to anything. Even dirt.Art taught me how to craft that voice alongside others. As a freelance illustrator, sometimes that meant working one-on-one with a client to help cultivate their own voice, pulling out ideas that they didn’t know how to communicate. Other times, as when working under the direction of a studio, I would harmonize with other artists, letting my own style meld into the chorus. My retail experience at the gift shop for the National Gallery of Art showed me how to uphold the voice of an institution in every interaction I had with the public.I’ve distilled each lesson into my work ethic, and perform best in a support role. I thrive as the person who remembers small details and who uses them to solve problems. Better yet, I’m the one who anticipates problems and makes sure everybody is on the same page from the get-go. With inspiration from the scientific method and the artistic process, I’m ready to be heard… or to hear from you! (Maybe over a decaf mocha.)
