About Emily Kasue
Strategic planner, community-builder, and problem solver. In September of 2023, I accepted my current job position at the YWCA as Centralized Applications Coordinator. I am responsible for processing housing applications, primarily for low-income renters and people experiencing homelessness in King County. I have enjoyed learning about tax credit, fair housing policies in Washington state, organizing and collecting housing applicant data, and working on voter registration for extremely cost burdened communities. I am passionate about helping create systemic change and am excited for the new possibilities at the YWCA. I currently am building a social news magazine called Kasue Magazine. The mission of the brand is to produce inspiring content to collaborate with young adults who want to find their place in the world and figure out a way to make it better. You can follow our primary page at instagram.com/kasuemagazine. I am a 2022 graduate from Seattle Pacific University with a double major in Sociology and Human Development and Women's Studies minor. I spent my first-year post-graduation traveling across the world, focusing on my social justice team, mentoring college students, creating multi-cultural worship night events, planning international mission trips, and building a social news magazine.Relevant work experience I gained while in college was entering the Social Venture Program. Students competed in different teams and proposed or created a business that helped solve a social problem. My team created The Shore, a coffeehouse with a punch card system that supports incarcerated women through the Freedom Education Project of Puget Sound. As the Outsourcing Manager and Community Contact Member, I researched ways to promote life resources for incarcerated women in the Puget Sound area as well as how to better advocate for their voices to the general public. Our team won the People’s Choice Award and explored ways to decrease the recidivism rate of incarcerated women in Washington state. Another experience I had as an undergraduate student was participating in a workshop called "Home for the Holidays". Student leaders and social science majors worked alongside professors and faculty to brainstorm ways to provide housing for students during the holiday season. By the end of the workshop, we successfully found ways to implement housing for students during holiday breaks when the dorms traditionally were closed down. The solution we created was put in place right before Covid-19 and was utilized during the pandemic.

Intern
After graduating in June of 2022, I applied to intern with a college ministry called the INN. The INN is composed of college students who serve, travel, and worship all while deepening their faith. College is a critical time when students are learning who they are and what shapes their identity. My responsibilities during this internship included being Social Justice Team Lead and organizing multicultural events for college students in the Seattle area, helping lead mission trips to Kentucky and the Dominican Republic, and writing and preaching a 30-minute sermon to 150 college students. I knew I wanted to gain a closer relationship with God, travel, and give myself more time to figure out what I desired in a career! This internship gave me just that and so much more.
