My journey began with owning two minimalist furniture showrooms in Los Angeles, catering to both consumers and commercial clients. In 2003, as underpriced imports began to flood the market, I pivoted from retail to manufacturing, forming a team dedicated to producing custom furniture with rapid turnarounds. This strategic shift allowed us to carve out a niche, making us the preferred choice for major film studios, high-profile clients like Google and Starbucks, and projects such as the renovation of Mayor Eric Garcetti's office, Los Angeles City Hall. In 2007, I founded EKLA HOME, an award-winning sustainable furniture company specializing in organic, non-toxic upholstered sofas. As the first online-only, factory-direct furniture brand in the U.S., EKLA HOME set new standards in eco-friendly design. My commitment to sustainability led me to collaborate with OSOMTEX, where we developed the first furniture foam made entirely from recycled post-consumer clothing. I also worked with the City of Los Angeles through the LA CleanTech incubator to create a clothing recycling take-back system, aiming to transform waste into new products.
