As a Montessorian, my role is to follow the child in order to facilitate their growth as an independent learner. I strive to foster the principles that Dr. Montessori set into practice over 100 years ago. The classroom is meticulously prepared so that each curricular area is set appropriately for the primary mixed-age group of 3-6-year-olds. In terms of my background as a world language teacher: As a specialist of foreign language pedagogy and linguistics, my teaching strategies are backed by innovative research concerning second language acquisition and its influence on language learning in the classroom. My French instruction is differentiated based on students’ needs and levels of proficiency, and I value culturally relevant speaking and listening practice above traditional grammar-based instruction. The 10 years I have spent building my instructional knowledge in teaching world languages, has allowed me to significantly hone my communication, student engagement, and classroom management skills. It has been through my work with these students and their families that I have truly begun to bond my studies of French culture with the city of Philadelphia and surrounding areas. It would be an honor to join a school district that values diversity and equal opportunities for all students.
