I am currently a middle school Language Arts teacher and previously worked taught in a 5th grade elementary classroom. I am hoping to potentially transfer full-time into the realm of instructional design when I have completed this program so I can still work in the world of education, designing materials to help students learn, but shift away from the pressures and challenges that teaching involves. Within the instructional design field I hope to focus on creating curricula and content that can be used in K-12, specifically middle school Language Arts as that is where my focus and strengths lie. I know as an instructional designer that would mean working heavily with the ASSURE Model, which I feel comfortable using as it connects with the work I have done in the past creating units and lessons to teach. Apart from designing the material and content that would be part of a unit/module, there is also the functional design of how the material will be presented and utilized by the instructor and learners and that is what I am most excited about when it comes to instructional design.
