I'm a writer, music historian, and broadcaster based at King’s College London, and my expertise is on early twentieth-century German and American music. I’ve published a book, ‘Interwar Symphonies and the Imagination: Politics, Identity, and the Sound of 1933’ (January 2023, Cambridge University Press), looking across the globe at the highly politicised symphonic genre, with its Germanic heritage, in the year Hitler achieved power in Germany. I was the 2019 recipient of the Jerome Roche Prize of the Royal Musical Association, for ‘a distinguished article by a scholar at an early stage of his or her career’.I currently hold a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship funding my new research, on music and technology in New York in the interwar period. I also write for non-academic audiences (my literary agent is Ben Dunn at DunnFogg, ben@dunnfogg.co.uk), and I appear regularly on BBC Radio 3, including 'Record Review', 'Free Thinking', and 'Music Matters'.
