I am currently studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Griffith University as a pathway into the medical profession. I am aspiring to become a doctor with a passion in supporting the ageing population.I am passionate about the medical profession as I believe it is a community of individual’s that have an intrinsic desire to help others, this is what allows medicine to continuingly progress and move forward. As such, compassion and empathy are two traits that I hold and believe are of the utmost importance. My passion for medicine has evolved over time, as I have grown up surrounded by family members who are apart of the health community. Currently, I work for the Department of Human Services Centrelink where I provide phone support to individuals across Australia. My ongoing role has given me confidence in my interpersonal skills as well as developing my research and problem-solving skills. My position has also allowed me to explore my role as an advocator, as I have communicated on behalf of individual’s, to ensure that they are supported by local organisation’s dependent on their circumstance. The skills I have gained from my current employment, previous experiences and current study are invaluable and will transfer across to a career in medicine. With these skills, I hope to create an environment where the ageing population feel supported and informed through a collaborative approach that ensures that they are making informed decisions about their own health and are able to continuingly engage in their community.
