Doctor Of Philosophy In Clinical Psychology StudentGriffith University Feb 2020 - PresentDissertation Title: Cultivating Compassion and Resilience in Police: Understanding the Stress of Responding to Domestic Violence Calls and How to Enhance Coping.Summary: My research is investigating the unique stress of policing domestic and family violence and how to better prepare police to cope with it. The proposed research will firstly investigate how police feel, how they function, and how they are affected by responding to these jobs through the development and evaluation of novel scales and the administration of a cross-sectional survey. Secondly, the findings will be used to develop and evaluate a training program that is designed to prepare new police recruits to effectively cope with and respond to domestic and family violence. The implications of this research are that it increases knowledge of how to help officers remain psychologically healthy and engaged in their work. This aims to increase their capacity to respond with compassion and sound judgement, thereby improving outcomes for victims, officers, and the police organisation. -
