I joined Tesco as a customer assistant and throughout my time in the role, I was picked by my manager to progress into a team leader. I am now in charge of managing my team and the shop to ensure everything gets done and that things run smoothly, even when problems occur. I am responsible for legal checklists and the opening up/shutting down of the shop at the start and end of the day. I am also responsible for handling deliveries, making sure they are accepted into the store and then worked through accordingly. Throughout my roles at Tesco, I have developed people and communication skills where I have to engage and talk to customers to either help them with their shopping trip or solve any issues they face during their visit to the store. I have also developed team working and team leadership skills as I have to both work with my team and instruct my team to make sure everything gets done to the best standards and within an appropriate time frame. I also have to ensure I keep a level head when things get very busy or when things sometimes go wrong, to ensure a good outcome is achieved and to prevent things escalating and becoming worse. If I stress, my team suffer, so I have to ensure that I keep composure and think on my feet to make sure everything runs smoothly and gets done to high standards. I consider myself as quite an ambitious person as I am always looking to progress/do more within my job. After becoming a team leader back in September 2023, I am now looking to progress and move up to a store manager role. As an individual, I am always looking at what more I can do within my role and job to not only progress higher within the company, but also to help my team more. I am constantly keen to upskill myself and take on extra tasks and responsibilities and I am always wanting to learn more about what I am doing or what I could potentially start doing in the future. My mindset is, if you’re going to do a job, you should aim for the best possible outcome because at the end of the day, what have you got to lose?
