Providing legal advice on a wide range of matters across the international business. This involves providing support on general company matters and commercial projects, and supporting some of our foreign offices with legal advice. Recently I supported the South African office for 6 months until they were able to recruit a permanent local lawyer. For the last year, I’ve been supporting the company’s merchandising division (Bravado) as their UK lawyer. This involves drafting and negotiating licences and Direct to Retail agreements for the sale of artist merchandise. I’ve also worked on co-branding collaborations. I’ve advised on pop up shops including the recent collaboration between Selfridges and Elton John. I support the touring business through drafting warehouse and freight agreements. I also advise and train the business on aspects of competition law. Elsewhere in the business, I spent 2016-2021 as the sole lawyer for the Virgin Music Label and Artist Services (previously Caroline). This included negotiating and drafting distribution and licence deals, JVs, producer and remix agreements.

Working in the international legal team, I provided a range of advice across the business. Among many other things, I spent 8 years working on the TV formats The Voice, The Voice Kids, The Winner Is and Idol, managing legal issues arising from these televised music competitions and the relationship between Universal and the format owner.

Supporting the General Counsel and providing legal advice on a wide range of matters across the international business.

The EMI Archive Trust is one of the world’s largest and most diverse music and technology archives. The charity’s aims are to preserve its historic collection but also to provide access to it and to educate and inspire new generations about the history of music. I’ve been a trustee since 2016. My main role is providing pro bono legal advice to the Trust on a range of matters such as the creation of policies, loaning the Trust’s assets to museums or for TV usage, and drafting agreements to allow researchers to access and use the assets. I also advise on copyright issues.

Seconded to EMI Music for 6 months from Freshfields, following which I was offered a role in their legal team supporting the General Counsel working on a variety of legal matters across the business, and most significantly, providing legal support on the sale of EMI.

Qualified into the Restructuring and Insolvency Department.

I did seats in Corporate, Finance and Real Estate. I was seconded to the Hong Kong office (to their Corporate department) for six months.
