Emily Newbery Email and Phone Number
I am a positive, passionate person who recently completed my degree in elementary education. I believe I bring a lot of fun-loving, kid-level, exciting and empathetic learning to children's lives. My focus in the teaching world is learning more about teaching Aboriginal Perspectives in the classroom, and connecting with as many colleagues as I can to deepen my passions.I am proud to take on many different leadership roles at Vancouver Island University. I sit on the education Faculty Committee, currently hold an executive role on Club Education, and in the past have had roles as Vice President of Club Education. I have also had the position of the Education Faculty representative on the Student's Union. I absolutely love being so involved with different aspects of my education and university as it really only benefits my journey and time there. I am excited for my future career in the school systems of British Columbia, and am pleased to say my professors, practicum supervisors, as well as my sponsor teacher and the principal of my current school have given me so much support and high praise as an emerging educator. Leadership to me does not mean directing and controlling people, but working alongside my colleagues to deepen our passions by connecting, exploring and inspiring each-other.My next goals will be to continue a leadership role in inclusive education in regards to First Nations culture and perspectives in the curriculum and schools in British Columbia. My focus will be working alongside people in SD8 (Kootenay Lake) or whichever I can be hired that will further my passion on this topic. Check out my ePortfolio, a work in progress, documenting my work at VIU and how I am meeting the TRB standards for BC Teachers!

We provide a safe, fun, active and social environment for children to live learn and play in. On pro-D days, we always have something fun planned, a field trip to a local place for the kids to enjoy their days with us. We are there for them for support, leadership and to make sure they're enjoying themselves.

Au PairAu Pair Jul 2015 - Sep 2015Brisbane, AustraliaAu pair for two school aged girls, 6 and 10. Engaged in their school activities (which gave me the biggest inspiration to teach there!) as well as home. I am fully able to get down to their level to communicate and play, while having authority when needed. Having these connections with 'little minds' is so significant to me in my education pursuit.
