Contractor in support of the Department of the Interior (DOI) United States Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Quality Laboratory (NWQL). As the first chemist carving out this new SME Chemist role in service of the USGS National Water Quality Laboratory, I have built rapport with and serve many units at the NWQL. The variety in this position has allowed me to work alongside management and analysts alike, completing validations, troubleshooting various instrumentation, training and mentoring new hires, providing assistance to reduce backlogs, exercise technical writing via proposals, validation reports, and writing new SOPs, and assisting with data reloads to address audit findings. • Evaluate, propose, and execute validation plans to determine substance composition, quality, & purity that meet ISO17025, NELAC, & EPA 40CFR136 requirements• Perform systemic testing in solving equipment, sample prep, and method performance problems to meet specific quality objectives for the testing of environmental, drinking, or wastewater• Document validations and troubleshooting activities and write proposed updates to existing SOPs• Evaluate, optimize, and/or perform laboratory prep procedures per DOI USGS NWQL QA manuals, SOPs, & guidelines• Troubleshoot methods and instrumentation and perform maintenance on instrumentation such as: Hg CVAF analyzers, IC, UV, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS, & ICP-OES and other analytical instrumentation• Monitor long-term trends for QC performance
