I work at South Dining Hall at UConn Storrs. I started as a student worker in March of 2022, then got promoted to Supervisor in October of 2022, which gave me several more responsibilities, such as training student workers, filing papers, organizing workers on shift, and disciplining when necessary. Then, in March of 2023, I got promoted to Student Manager and since then I've managed 50 student workers in regards to creating their schedules, training them for the job, completing payroll, and disciplining them when necessary, as well as hold meetings for my Student Management team, while also attending meetings for Student Manager updates.

I began volunteering for Horizons at SHU when it was first created in the Summer of 2012. I was only 9 years old and helped set up breakfast and lunch for the k-1 grade classrooms, as well as helped them run math and literacy centers. I volunteered 6 weeks every summer to this program until the age of 16, when I got a Classroom Intern position so I could be more involved. From then on at Horizons, I have practiced reading, writing, math, and social-emotional skills with k-8 students from Bridgeport, CT in a classroom setting in order to keep them on track with their studies in school and to prevent what is known as the "Summer Slide" (defn: learning loss children experience during the summer break). At Horizons, we specifically work with underprivileged children and promote equity for them. It is not all learning however, as we create hands-on activities for them and let them host their own creativities through dancing, art, band, and coding classes.
