For pediatric and neurological patients, I frequently co-treat with physical therapists and speech-language pathologists to reinforce multidisciplinary goals and challenge patients to integrate skills learned in from individual disciplines. Additional treatment techniques include: manual therapy, splinting, aquatherapy, use of modalities, NDT, and CIMT.

This hospital has over 600 beds, is a Level 1 Trauma Center, and also serves as the home of the Illinois Neurological Institute. Primary diagnoses seen include: stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, Guillan Barre, and post-operative spinal fusions. I was able to observe three surgeries including an anterior cervical fusion, spinal fusion, and brain tumor removal. I attended several seminars provided to staff therapists for continuing education and a Safe Patient Handling workshop to utilize lift and transfer equipment safely. -
Occupational Therapy StudentMemorial Medical Center- Koke Mill May 2014 - Aug 2014Springfield, Il, UsAt this facility, I evaluated and treated primarily upper extremity orthopedic conditions as well as upper and lower extremity lymphedema. I was supervised by an occupational therapist who was also a certified hand therapist and certified lymphedema therapist. With upper extremity patients, I commonly fabricated splints and followed specific MD protocols. In the lymphedema setting, I also provided thorough education of the lymphatic system to patients, participated in manual lymphatic drainage techniques, and performed compression wrapping. Here I provided an inservice on Graded Motor Imagery and was able to observe the following surgeries: Dupuytren's release, Ulnar Nerve release, and shoulder arthroscopy with rotator cuff repair.
