Bilingual Reading Specialist with a career of experience in ESOL education in K-12 and college settings.I currently hold the position of Reading Specialist at Worthington High School in West Palm Beach. At Worthington, I provide instructional assistance to high school-age students to increase their English reading and literacy skills. This includes assessing their needs, providing instructional assistance and classroom management. I provide targeted group and individual instruction to support student success through intensive group or individual tutoring as required. Having lived my life in Italy, I am right at home in my ESOL experience at Worthington and I organize reading support programs for native and non-native English speakers. I collaborate closely with teachers to establish adaptations and accommodations for students across all grades and subject levels through individualized planning. I also provide ongoing feedback to support teachers in ensuring student success.After receiving my BFA degree from Syracuse University, my career unfolded in Milan, Italy, where I taught English to Italians K-12, and worked closely with ETS Global to develop a young student -friendly English certification test, TOEFL for Young Students, specifically geared to students aged 5 to 9. had the fortune to have collaborated with European Union educators in launching and implementing the new ELL test and traveling around Italy to share the process with teachers.I created and executed hundreds of courses for K-12, university and adult learners of English and enjoyed the creativity. Using my music and theater background, I was able get my high school kids to bring literary works to life through my ‘Theater in English’ courses, and to encourage students to step beyond the written word into performance. At Worthington, students struggle with learning grade-level content because of gaps in reading comprehension, fluency, and decoding. In my sessions with students, I utilize several theater and diction exercises and games, from nursery rhymes to role play. Bringing the written word to life is the goal of my work, and my theater passion and expertise are always present in class.
