-Member of Dr. Hendrik Luesch's lab, focusing on drug discovery from marine cyanobacteria. My projects involved chemical extraction and purification, followed by compound elucidation, and biological assays to test bioactivity.-Chemical work consisted of chemical extractions, partitions, column chromatography, HPLC purification, LCMS and HRMS spectra interpretation, and 1D/2D NMR elucidation.-Biological work consists of mammalian cell culturing, in vitro cell assays, western blots and IP western blots, RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, and PCR.-Data analysis and formatting using programs including excel, biorender, mnova.

-Member of Dr. Brady Porter’s lab, focusing on genetic and molecular evolutionary ecology of freshwater fish and invertebrates-Collaborated with biologist Marc Yergin and Tim Pearce from the Carnegie Natural History Museum and Dr. Brady Porter from Duquesne University on comparing morphological identification with my developed molecular technique of identifying freshwater sponge species in Pennsylvania*Completed a senior honors thesisResearch involved:-DNA extraction; primer alignment to mtDNA; PCR; gel electrophoresis; sequencing; molecular database use for sequence analysis (MEGA, BLAST, GenBank)-Field work performing manual searches of freshwater bodies of water for sponge specimens-Megasclere and spicule examination using a light microscope for a morphologically based species identification

-Was accepted as an intern by Dr. Amy Wright, PI and chair for the Marine Biomedical and Biotechnology Research Program for two consecutive summers-My role in Dr. Wright’s lab involved chemical extractions from sponge samples; protein purification through multiple chromatography methods; compound elucidation via NMR and mass spectroscopy; bacterial assays-At the end of the 10 weeks, I presented a talk on my research to HBOI faculty, students, and the public-The data I acquired will be published in the future by Dr. Wright’s laboTwo separate papers (2018 and 2019)

-Was accepted by UNF mentor Dr. Amy Lane. Dr. Lane’s lab focuses on exploiting the natural products of marine bacteria and increasing the production thereof via inter-species competition-My role in Dr. Lane’s lab involved full time work in producing liquid cultures of pure bacterial strains, antiseptically plating strains in 24 well plates using variable inter-species in vitro competitions and analyzing and recording data pertaining to the antibacterial production of the various strains (both qualitative and quantitative)-At the end of the 10 weeks, I wrote and presented a proposal, and designed and presented a poster on my research-My collected data and conclusions will be included in the paper Dr. Lane’s lab will be publishing in the future on this long-term project
