Emily is driven by a core belief that quality buildings make life better, and that we all deserve that. She's recently put that belief into practice by co-designing 'Isabel and Elsie: Homes Designed to Nurture Women and Children’s Wellbeing and Recovery from Homelessness.' The project comprises replicable homes for the Hobart Women’s Shelter, addressing the urgent need for safe accommodation for women and children facing homelessness. Designed with trauma-informed principles, these low-cost, low-maintenance homes welcome inhabitants into a calm space with direct connection to the natural backdrop of sky, trees, mountain and water. As an architect Emily has over fifteen years' experience designing residential and communal buildings in Tasmania. Her notable works include Eternal Women's Health (2019), The Rox Apartments (2021) and King Island Community Hub (due for completion 2024). Emily was a recipient of the Dulux Study Tour national award in 2012 and in 2021 was awarded the AIA's Tasmanian Emerging Architect Prize. Emily believes that cooperative housing is the ‘missing middle’ of housing in Australia - an affordable housing solution alternative to home ownership and rentals. She is attending the 2024 BCCM Co-Operative Housing Tour of Copenhagen, Vienna and Zurich, with a goal to learn more about cooperative housing and apply this knowledge in her home town.Email: emily@corecollective.com.au
