As part of the Science Advancement and Outreach Division, I work with legislators, policy makers, publishers, and other scientists to advance the transition to animal-free biomedical research in the U.S.

A trained animal researcher turned animal advocate, I am working to end the use of animals in experimentation and promote the development of animal-free methods. I provide a scientific background for many of PETA's campaigns, present our work at scientific conferences, and meet with government officials to discuss animal research policy. I also foster PETA's relationship with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees (IACUCs), the oversight bodies responsible for reviewing scientific proposals to use animals and enforcing the minimum standards of care for animals mandated by federal law. By advancing PETA's positive relationships with the animal experimentation community, government funding bodies, and experts in animal-free methods, we can make science not only better for animals, but for the people working in and hoping to benefit from its endeavors.

While completing my doctorate in neuroscience, I designed, carried out, and published on experiments using rats and mice in the fields of neuroscience, physiology, and genetics. I assisted colleagues in similar tasks. I also helped to maintain the laboratory space and equipment.
