The work of a pediatric occupational therapist is about play, but it is also much more than that! Occupational Therapy is sometimes described as "skills for the job of living." Being successful in helping clients achieve goals requires excellent interpersonal skills and creative, goal driven treatment interventions. It also requires skilled assessment of the patient, their support environment and structures, as well as task or skill specific demands. I have always enjoyed the opportunity to be constantly using my creative problem solving and analytical skills in support of my clients' progress and growth. In more recent years, I have come to greatly enjoy the role of educator, as much as my treatment sessions. I enjoy teaching families what I know about development and sensory integration, sharing my experience and knowledge with my peers and educating other professionals about the important role Occupational Therapy can play in helping their clients thrive. In working for a private practice for the past 14 years, I have also appreciated the opportunity to add to the team's and the practice's success through excellent customer service, generating new tools and solutions, as well as establishing and strengthening business relationships. And I am always fascinated by and interested in learning new scientific information, especially regarding physical and mental health, as well as child development and learning.
