Ucsd Ski And Snowboard Team Secretary
Inspired by the leaders of our team this past season, I wanted to once again be a part of making our university's ski team an exciting and competitive environment for students to be a part of. Not only am I in charge of serving as the primary method of communication between leadership and the rest of the team, but I'm also in charge of better establishing alumni relations and coordinating travel plans for the whole team.
Undergraduate Student Researcher
I was given the opportunity to work under Dr. Mark Herzik in his Biochemistry Lab at UC San Diego. The Herzik Lab’s efforts go primarily toward utilizing cryoEM technology to determine the structure of mitochondrial proteins. Research Assistant Minh Le and Post-Doctoral Fellow Brian Cook were two amazing mentors that taught me several lab techniques commonly used in their lab. As a Bioinformatics student, it was great getting to learn several wet lab procedures while studying the dry lab side of things in my classes.
New Member Experience Director
I have been given the privilege of helping to integrate new members in what I have been lucky to call my home for the past three years. Joining Kappa, a community of supportive and inspiring women, has been by far one of the biggest highlights of my college experience. Having become a mentor to three girls in the chapter, I wanted to act as a mentor for the incoming new member classes as well. I feel that I've learned so much about myself and have grown into the person I am today because of these girls that I surround myself with. I wanted to be a part of making these new members excited for that journey and to ensure that they feel as at home as I did!
Director Of Philanthropy
Encouraged to take on the position by other leaders in the chapter that I truly admire, I felt empowered to spearhead such an important part of who we are as an organization. Due to the Kappa Kappa Gamma organization switching their philanthropic efforts to mental health, I was given the opportunity to start two brand new events for our chapter. Our Spring philanthropic event, Kappa Kapture the Flag, is a capture the flag tournament that involves all chapters in the SFL (Sorority and Fraternity Life) community! By attending and competing in the event, these chapters help us raise money for NEDA (the National Eating Disorders Association). I was able to start the development of our fall event, known as Kappa Kolor Walk, which is more hands on and allows us to work with NEDA directly. Our chapter is tasked with the job to put on a big San Diego walk to raise awareness for Eating Disorders, with NEDA backing us as an organization. We hope to put on our first official walk this upcoming fall.
Fraternity Education Chair
Being on the Chapter Council of my sorority, I have significantly developed my communication and organizational skills. I was in charge of senior activities, communication with girls abroad, and plans for our big founder's day event.
Associate Faculty
I worked with a Stanford Immunologist, Serena Chang, to produce a recommendation for a scientific paper entitled "Remdesivir (GS-5734) Is Efficacious in Cynomolgus Macaques Infected With Marburg Virus" over the spring and summer of 2020. Having been locked in my room with the rest of the world due to COVID, I decided that I wanted to partake in an immunology research project. After working with Dr. Chang on how to properly breakdown and analyze scientific papers as well as deepen my knowledge of immunology, I was able to publish my recommendation on the Faculty Opinions (now known as H1 Connect) website.
