Director Of Outreach And Education
Current
President
CurrentNMD United is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization governed by a board of adults with neuromuscular disabilities, bringing to the table diverse backgrounds and skill sets, yet all having shared similar experiences that have created a sense of community. In 2013, I began to develop this organization with five other adults from around the United States. In 2014, I was voted-in as President of the organization. A true grassroots organization, our origin was within social media. An online group of adults with muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, and other neuromuscular diseases realized that many of the socialization and support groups focused most of their attention on children and their parents. As adults, we face new challenges and craved open discussion with peers. I currently coordinate virtual educational program and lead committees that bring important resources to adults living with neuromuscular disabilities around the world.Today more than 2000 members, all of which are adults with neuromuscular diseases, have come together and created the first of its kind body of knowledge about what it means to live with severe disability. NMD United was created to capture and document what we’ve learned, create a forum for continued support and growth, driven by people with disabilities for people with disabilities.
