• Facilitate the transition of high school students to a university environment by providing a forum for integrating the FIU experience for discussing issues and promoting intellectual, personal, academic, and social growth and success as a member of the University Community.• Leads topics such as Academic and Career Choices, time and money management, health and wellness, study skills, test taking, career planning, relationships, leadership and diversity.• Integrate students to the University policies, procedures and services of Florida International University.• Promote student success, responsibility and development by providing both challenge and support for the learning process in the classroom and out in the community. • Evaluate student growth and development by assessing assignments throughout the semester including homework, papers, quizzes, common reading assignments and a final career project towards the end of the semester. • Supervise a student Peer Mentor who is assigned to the course and assists throughout the length of the semester.
