Analysis is a powerful tool, but it can’t stand on its own. To create an accurate and complete picture, data and context need to be packaged as effective writing and graphics so the audience can grasp exactly what it needs.Both sides of this equation are components of my work that I enjoy doing. Understanding the information and transforming it into graphs, tables, and paragraphs gives me a chance to learn and create, digging in to see what’s really there. But I know I’ve done my job right when I’ve edited those components down and pieced them together so that my audience can easily understand and use the information.Beyond reporting, my work includes editing, research for policies, running independent analysis, creating proofs, and taking apart the Nationwide legal entity structure and examining capital and accounting structures.New projects give me an opportunity to grow my skill set and to see how I can apply my strengths in new ways. I’ve learned to code in five languages (Python, STATA, Mathematica, R, and M). I’m not afraid to ask questions or try something new.Outside of work, I balance everything I love from sports to creative writing.I root for teams from places that I’ve spent important parts of my life – Northwestern, Columbus, San Francisco, and Baltimore/Washington D.C. I watch all the games I can catch and research play-by-plays and data to see what makes my teams tick.I also write fiction, and every November since 2010, I’ve participated in National Novel Writing Month. For the past five years, I’ve successfully written 50,000 words of a novel each November; my characters have taken me from Wonderland to a high school baseball field to World War III.
