In the Department of Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences, a part of Doisy College of Health Sciences at Saint Louis University, I play an integral role in the graduate clinical education of future speech-language pathologists. I am a higher education administrator, instructor, clinical supervisor and program manager. I work with each student on their plan for clinical education to meet certification standards and ensure all students experience a breadth and depth of the scope of practice during their graduate education. Overseeing the department’s Reinert Speech-Language clinic, my role is clinical, administrative and teaching—working with students to give them the practical and professional skills in the field that they will need as they enter their careers— as well as the ability to grow our clinic and focus on the administrative and business duties, including marketing, compliance, fundraising and community engagement projects. I teach in the classroom, in the clinic and provide continuing education to professionals in the community as the liaison for all practicum and externship placements.I also serve as a clinical educator and provider of direct services to the community in the SLU Reinert Speech-Language clinic. Through my clinical work, I am a part of the SLU Transgender Health Collaborative (https://www.slu.edu/doisy/clinics-and-community/transgender-health-collaborative.php), a group of researchers and clinical providers at SLU working to improve knowledge of and access to quality, evidence-supported healthcare for trans and gender-expansive individuals. I specialize in gender-affirming voice and communication, student training in this area of our field, and contributing to research to promote access to training and culturally responsive care.
