Emily Key served as the Director of Education at the National Museum of the American Latino where she developed the museum’s Learning Continuum and Education Vision centering on creating opportunities for visitors to experience, learn, reflect, share, and transform by sparking curiosity and encouraging life-long learning.Key areas of focus:Developed annual FY programmatic calendar to meet strategic goals and objectives for both the unit and SI. Development of national outreach focus area framework and region/site selection process layering national data, Latino demographics, and possible museum/cultural center locations.Oversee the ongoing daily programming and activation of the MFLG exhibition space and GM Learning Lounge with an attendance of 42,420 visitors between June 2022 and December 2023. Oversaw the development of 14 new education resources via online or hard copy distribution, including (5) new learning labs for Breaking Barriers, Nuestras Voces, and Latino Patriots.Developed an online program strategy using collaborative efforts with OVS, NMAH, APAC, and NMAL Digital Team. This included the launching of new video series and digital resources such as scavenger hunts and learning labs. Impacts: Latinas Talk Latinas Season 1 (2 year video viewing totals 70,023 views on cross platforms (social media, YouTube, NMAH and NMAL); NASA Downlink Program Breaking Barriers with Astronaut Frank Rubio (4,414 views), Rising Together Video Series Launch May 2023 (200 views on YouTube), Mariachi Stamp Stories with NPM (101 views).Developed internal and external program proposals for potential donors and grant opportunities.Co-Develop Earned Income projects around children's literacy, including a new Dear Diary series with Capstone Publishing, Nuestras Voces.

Developed the SLC Learning Continuum including bilingual educational programming, community engagement, and publications (print and online resources) for the Center, including the nationally recognized youth leadership program, the Young Ambassadors Program (YAP). • Manages the SLC Education Team: Manager of Education and Public Programs, the Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator, YAP Alumni Liaison. • Oversees the creation of the GM Learning Lounge and its correlative programming at the Molina Family Latino Gallery (MFLG) • Oversees and develops object/inquiry-based education activities for families, youth as well as curriculum and resources for K-12 students and teachers. • Leads the development of the MFLG Children’s and Intergenerational Literacy Initiative. • Spearheads strategic local/ national partnerships. Created the MFLG Educator’s Advisory Council, member of the Smithsonian Council for Education Directors. • Highlights: Continued expansion and integration of YAP and its Alumni Network, the nationwide ¡Descubra! Family Program series, building of online learning resources via the Smithsonian Learning Lab, Canvas, and Moodle, the Cultural Expressions school program series, and the Latino Patriots in American Military History Educator’s Guide.o Co-creator of Latinas Talk Latinas online series with the National Museum of American History o Program lead for the Because of Her Story Internship Program (2019-2020) that is part of the Smithsonian’s American Women’s History efforts. Developed strategies to integrate underrepresented communities through the creation of cohort-based internship programming focused on diverse women’s history, promoting DEAI efforts in exhibitions, collections, education, and outreach. o Worked with the Asian Pacific American Center and the National Museum of African American History and Culture to develop Look, Talk, and Play Culture through Food Activity Card. • Published in the NAEA’s online journal ViewFinder

Cultivated and managed strategic programming partnerships with Smithsonian units, (23) external museums, community based organizations, and schools nationwide. Programs, Interpretive Materials, and Publications •Developed and managed national teen program, the Young Ambassadors Program (YAP), a five-week national leadership development program for high school seniors , on an annual basis from 2006 to the present. From 2006-2019, managed over $2 M in private dollars. Developed and implemented a 4-year longitudinal impact study. o Created and managed the Young Ambassadors Program- Alumni Network (YAP AN), providing co-created networking, continuing education and professional development, and community engagement/peer fundraising opportunities for the over 280 alumni of YAP, on-site and online programs including the YAP AN Advisory Group. • Developed and Managed the ¡Descubra! Meet the Science Expert series to promote STEM by introducing young Latino audiences and their inter-generational families to resources at family days and other general public program activities. Program has reached over 450,000 visitors on-site nationwide. o Scaled up the program to include Washington D.C. and various other regional presence family days across the country, including focused implementation of strategies to increase relevancy beyond the museum family daySince 2015, managed $225k private dollars and the day-to-day donor communications related to the project. Developed and Implemented Cultural Expressions Interdisciplinary School Program Series (5 workshops) , to address Latino Center gap in locally-focused K-12 bilingual school programs/materials that explore Latino art, history, culture, and sciences, targeting educators and students (ES-HS). Reach to date: 14,148 students. Education Materials Developed include (hard copy and online): •(11) educator/student targeted materials/publications•(15) interpretive materials and gallery/ event guides for family audiences

•Researched and drafted the 56-page bilingual educational teacher’s manual publication Latino Patriots in American Military History; developed educational multi-disciplinary activities and researched images and copyright documentation •Assisted the Core Programs Director with planning and logistics for the forthcoming summer programs (Young Ambassadors Program and Latino Museum Studies Program) and with the preparation of National Latino Board materials.

• Developed the first-ever Educational Bilingual Family Day for the National Air and Space Museum, including Latino community outreach efforts and translation of educational and promotional materials. • Facilitated bilingual science demonstrations on the Forces of Flight.

• Serves as a Lead Explainer in the “How Things Fly” Gallery, including Explainer peer-to-peer training, development of peer training seminars, assignment of daily duties and timetables, visitor problem resolution, general operations with the interactive devices and exhibits.• Presented hourly demonstrations and hands-on science activities for “Forces of Flight”, “Star Station One” , and other Discovery Stations.• Presented short visitor engagements with Discovery Stations and Family Programming

• Assisted with the revision of specific human resource and personnel procedures for international consultants, including tracking and verification of performance contracts, and translation of vacancy announcments. • Worked on special projects (i.e. researched and drafted Guidelines for Security and Emergency Evacuation Procedures for international OAS personnel in field offices, provided logistical support for the Advisory Committee on Selection on Promotion meetings).
