About Emily Conn
Active community service leader & horticultural professional with a focus on living collections management, public gardens leadership, & woody plant conservation. I am thrilled to serve the Chicago region and continue to foster partnerships between the public horticulture community, urban community scientists, and learners of all ages.As the Manager of Plant Records & Horticulture Programs at the Lincoln Park Zoo, I maintain a database of over 1,500 types of woody, herbaceous, and tropical plants and conduct site inventories within our formal gardens, naturalized Nature Boardwalk ecosystem, and zoological habitats. The Lincoln Park Zoo is a Level III Accredited Arboretum, BGCI accredited Botanic Garden, and our nationally accredited Herbaceous Perennial Hibiscus collection serves as a library and phenological resource repository for studying over 100 cultivars of complex hybrid Hibiscus. This unique collection also preserves the history of some of the earliest hybridized hardy Hibiscus in North America.By further developing our Collections Policy, Core Collections Development Strategy, and engagement with regional conservation efforts, I look forward to increasing the scope, diversity, and conservation value of our accredited collection(s).As the Communication Chair of the APGA Plant Nomenclature and Taxonomy Council, I coordinate our quarterly Town Hall meetings to discuss council business and assist with annual community projects & symposia. I moderate the forums as needed and provide assistance and education!
