I began working at The Bush, my local pub, when I was 15. At the time, I was also in school and working at the pharmacy, so my time management skills were greatly developed as I was in school during weekdays, working here in the evenings, and working at the chemist over weekends (and later at Specsavers in summer). I began working as kitchen / wait staff and maintained that role for 3 years, until I turned 18 and began working on the bar. By this time, I had left school, and therefore picked up more hours until I was working 30+ hours a week. I then continued working here for another year until I left for university, but I still work holidays and cover shifts when I am needed. My main duty is serving and waiting on customers; however, I am also required to help the chef to make the food, answer the phones, collect, unbox and put away deliveries, and clean. Working on a bar has also given me experience in working with difficult and intoxicated customers, hence developing my politeness, patience, and my ability to work under certain pressures. I reprised this role from 27th August 2023 - 1st January 2024.

I was offered a bursary position on ‘The Brontës and the Gothic’ course under Dr Sam Hirst and the Brontë Parsonage Museum.

I work full time at Specsavers when I am home from University. I have maintained this position for two summers in a row, in addition to the Christmas period last year. My job consists of both answering and making phone calls, covering the front reception, completing basic hearing aid repairs, arranging appointments, supporting and advise customers, cleaning/disinfecting equipment, and much more. This job allowed for an insight on 9-5 working life and gave me a lot of experience in time management and delegating, due to working 30+ hour weeks whilst also studying for my degree.
