Emily Williams is a seasoned problem-solver with more than 20-years experience in higher-education communications. She currently serves as director of communications for the Institute for the Environment at UNC-Chapel Hill. Prior to joining UNC, Emily was the senior director of communications for the Division of Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Georgia where she built and led a team of seven communications professionals to inspire alumni engagement and giving in preparation for the public phase of a multi-billion dollar fundraising campaign. Before moving to Georgia, Emily worked for five years at the University of Virginia in various communications roles. Most notably, she worked for the top-ranked U.Va. School of Law at a time when social media began to gain traction in the higher-ed marketplace. Emily helped the law school establish itself in the social media sphere with creative and engaging content, including video, podcast and multimedia collateral. Emily earned her undergraduate degree in communications with a focus on video production and her graduate degree in organizational communications, both from Ohio University.
