I develop, recommend, and implement strategies and complex policies/projects to achieve the City of Boulder's Climate Action Plan (CAP), circular economy and other environmental sustainability goals, including the development of sustainability-related Strategic and Master Plans. I provide leadership by facilitating technical teams to strategically plan for environmental sustainability programs and services within the city. I plan for the development of projects to implement City Council goals by administering and managing the CAP tax and trash tax funds to ensure the city meets its zero waste targets for Construction & Demolition (C&D) debris.

As Chair, I assist the Pollution Prevention Advisory Board (PPAB) and its Assistance Committee in the development, application, and monitoring of $2.7M (annually) through the Recycling Resources Economic Opportunity (RREO) grant program. I analyze and monitor innovative, recycling and diversion implementation projects that promote economic development through the creation of 350+ new jobs in CO, and I consider how state-wide diversion needs are supported through our strategic plans and grant funds.Typical projects address source reduction, recycling, beneficial use/re-use, anaerobic digestion, or composting for a wide variety of materials, with the goal of assisting Colorado to recycle materials, advance economic development, create jobs through end-market development, and preserve the state's natural beauty. Since its inception, the grant program has awarded more than $13.5 million to businesses, local governments, nonprofit groups, and schools and universities throughout Colorado to help develop recycling infrastructure.

I manage the City & County of Denver's certification to the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS) standard. I used my skills in program management, outreach, and engagement to revive the prominence and success of our system. I effectively collaborate across 27 departments, from our operations teams to our executive management and Mayoral appointees. I spearhead the development and tracking of 250+ environmental performance goals (KPIs) to align with Denver’s strategic sustainability plan and operational goals. I conduct outreach and engagement activities to manage and reduce environmental risks, improve air, land, and water quality, and advise on sustainable environmental stewardship as it relates policy development.I lead investigations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental statutes and regulations. As a subject matter professional I provide guidance on environmental auditing, training, and sustainability strategies from our Public Works and Parks & Recreation departments, to Arts & Venues and Human Resources. I collaborate with Purchasing to identify efficiency improvements in procurement and materials management. In 2017 and 2018 I twice received Mayor Hancock's 5281 Award for efforts in innovative approaches to safety and sustainability.The City and County of Denver remains the only North American city to be ISO 14001:2015 certified for all municipal operations. Denver’s EMS is built on a recognized continuous improvement model and functions as a framework to systematize the City’s address to sustainability initiatives, environmental compliance and pollution prevention, and to reduce the City’s environmental liability.

I was one of ten American delegates selected to the prestigious 2018 TOMODACHI-Mitsui & Co. Leadership Program; a program designed to inspire and encourage the next generation of American and Japanese leaders. I represented the environmental and sustainability fields in presentations to Tohoku Electric Power Co., Tohoku Economic Federation, Fast Retailing Co., and Mitsui & Co.I explored private, public, and non-profit sector approaches to innovation, technology, and industrial development in the context of international relations by meeting with various Japanese government officials, business executives, and entrepreneurs to share experiences and insights. This bicultural, experiential leadership development opportunity facilitated broadening perspectives to enhance my work initiatives.The delegates are creative thinkers and driven does who are invested in the future of U.S.-Japan relations, understand and appreciate cultural differences, and possess the globally oriented skills and mindset needed to thrive and make a difference.

I am responsible for project management and business development activities for Waste Management's 17 U.S. Market Areas to analyze growth potential and develop holistic, integrated municipal recycling programs. I manage $220MM annual revenue across the U.S. and provide program/project management and oversight for contracts ranging from 3000 to 126,000 tons per year of recyclables.I develop new value-adds for the Market Areas including comprehensive education/outreach programs using CBSM techniques to revitalize and stimulate current Municipal recycling programs. I also worked on developing and rolling out model contract language across the U.S. to ensure environment and legal risks were minimized and uniform contract language is employed throughout negotiations with various municipal entities.I managed, composed and oversaw the response elements from all internal stakeholders to construct winning RFP and bid responses for large municipal customers. I interface with the financial analysts to develop proformas, engineers and MRF managers on D/B/O and processing projects, and all of the local Sales team members to integrate our service offerings with the local culture and its needs.I oversaw and developed training modules to improve QA/QC of our inbound and outbound recyclable material streams. ISO 14001/9001 are fully integrated components at the facilities I work, and I trained on Lean Six Sigma principles to employ best practices.

I created programs, diversion opportunity road-maps, implementation plans, and manage project teams for both internal and external customers related to operational efficiency, zero waste programs, supply chain management, waste reduction, energy efficiency, and employee training and engagement. I conducted comprehensive waste and recycling audits where I would gathered and analyzed data sets to present to the client in line with their sustainability and diversion goals.I have experience working with various Fortune 500 companies to develop programs, tracking, and financial savings data to help increase their landfill diversion and reduce the environmental impacts. I have worked with companies in Food & Retail, Manufacturing & Industrial sectors, Public Sector - Higher Education institutions, and Commercial Properties. I have been involved in training and composing internal GRI and GRI EOSS reports, as well as writing the sustainability reports for other companies in Healthcare and Commercial Properties.

Through interactions with teachers and students in Chandler High School (AZ), I helped improve communication and teaching skills while enriching sustainability and STEM content and instruction across the curriculum at the school. I developed integrated lesson plans that the teachers used that were based on sound scientific methods for assessing the sustainability on multiple environmental, social, and economic dimensions.The GK-12 Fellowship teams graduate and faculty researchers with high school teachers, students, and administrators to help schools become more sustainable. Partnering school districts identify the aspects of sustainability they wish to improve — campus sustainability, community, or curriculum — while graduate researchers help teachers and students use scientific methods to assess their sustainability in those areas. Graduate research fellows also provide sustainability training to teachers, career counselors, and community members.

I conducted a research project to analyze trends, business opportunities and report on the future growth of the recycling industry - commissioned by Waste Management, Inc. in partnership with the L. William Seidman Research Institute. The final deliverable was titled, "An Analysis of Industry Trends and Future Business Opportunities."The L. William Seidman Research Institute serves as an essential link between the local, national and international business communities and the intellectual and creative resources of Arizona State University's nationally ranked school of business. It collects and disseminates information about local economies, benchmarks industry practices and identifies emerging business research issues.

Graduate Teaching Assistant: Sustainable Worlds SOS 110I assisted in the classroom learning environment, held office hours students' sustainability questions and preparation for exams and papers, and taught a weekly SOS 101 section to enhance lecture materials through case studies and classroom activities.

I managed and trained Intensive Case Managers on a designated clinical team achieving a 75% increase in productivity in the first year. I also provided case management for up to 12 minors with mental and behavioral health needs. I prepared and managed documents, trained on administrative tasks, and provided hands-on training with clients and their families. I met with team members, families, and clients (17 and under) to understand their needs. I identified services, and integrated natural and community supports to the families to improve functioning.

I coordinated with Japanese English teachers to plan, prepare, and conduct 20 conversational-based English classes per week at Miyazaki Kita (North) High School for more than 2,000 students for 3 years. I actively participated in the student's English conversation club to provide cultural activities, English speaking practice, and coaching for student speech contests outside of the classroom.
