Hi! I'm Emily, let's connect. My work has been guided in the past 15+ years by a passion for helping others to connect the work of their hands with the values in their heart. Putting ideals into action to create a more just world is my jam.I currently work as a Community Builder at String Theory Yarn Company. Yes, it's retail! But if you've visited a local yarn shop, you'll understand that this kind of space is so much more than a craft store. It's a community a makers, of creative people creating slow art with their hands, and brave people who aren't afraid to learn something new. My role is primarily customer service - helping customers to get their hands on the perfect tools for their project, and troubleshooting challenges along the way (and untangling a lot of yarn). You'll also find me coordinating community and charitable events, working with rad non-profit organizations that share our values, and popping up here and there on Instagram reels and videos for the shop.Before my career leaned hard into the creative side, I was a community and labor organizer for nearly a decade, focusing especially on healthcare justice and advocating for Medicare-for-all. These days, I utilize those organizing skills on a local level: I've enjoyed volunteering with the League of Women Voters, and grassroots organizing in support of local environmental and social justice initiatives. I also am the lead organizer of two tiny humans, which is by far the most challenging gig I've EVER had.
