    The Athens-Clarke County Recycling Division is the county's waste management hub with a focus on educating the community on waste reduction through recycling and composting ultimately reducing the amount of waste the goes to the landfill. My duties as Project Coordinator were focused on coordinating a fraternity and sorority recycling competition in order to reduce waste and increase use of new recycling bins allocated from a grant by Alcoa. My responsibilities included:Develop relationships with the over 50 fraternities and sororities housed on and off the University of Georgia's campus. Coordinate a recycling competition that encouraged fraternities and sororities to recycle plastic and aluminum. Each week, the recyclables were picked up and weighed and points were allocated to each fraternity and sorority.Engaged with local businesses to donate incentives to the winning fraternity and sorority, which resulted in an awards ceremony for the winning fraternity and sorority hosted at a local brewery and a prize package of over $300. In my Research Assistant role for the ACC Recycling Division, I was responsible for the following duties: Create press releases, posters, and flyers for the division's annual events such as Greenlife Expo, Greenfest Awards and Athfest. Coordinate the division's presence at local events in the community to raise awareness about recycling and waste reduction.Research single-stream recycling programs and industrial composting facilities that were being considered for implementation in Athens-Clarke County.

    The University of Georgia Office of Sustainability was created in 2010 from a student-led initiative to raise student fees in order to fund an office that would coordinate and communicate environmentally-conscious and sustainable practices on the UGA campus. I helped to spearhead the campaign to increase student fees and co-wrote the structural proposal for the new office and its function within the university. I also worked as one of the first interns for the office and helped to lay the foundation for the office's relationship with students and student-led projects.
