About Emily Keegans, Cawa, Ccpdt-Ka, Cbcc-Ka, Ctc

I have 20 years of experience in animal sheltering with a focus on behavioral health, and a deep love for all animals. I believe that animal welfare and human welfare are intertwined, and I put that into action in ways such as coaching adopters and pet owners, supporting staff to do their best work, and seeking community-based solutions. Animal sheltering is incredibly hard work, and just as rewarding. I have a strong history of creating training programs which enhance human understanding of animal behavior. Designing, implementing, and growing programs in partnership with staff is a passion. I'm a firm believer in the importance of having accessible resources, SOPs (yes, the dreaded SOPs—I love them!), and other structures to guide staff and volunteers in their work. One of my core beliefs is that leaders should set the stage for others to shine.I enjoy fostering under socialized kittens and helping them build trust in humans.
