Yamhill County Public Health

I work as the clinic nurse for Yamhill County Public Health. I operate under standing orders to prescribe birth control, provide testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, and to administer immunizations to all ages. Additionally, I provide pregnancy testing and counseling, tuberculosis testing, tetanus injury management, general reproductive health consults, and maintain our inventory of both vaccines and medications. I also run off-site vaccination clinics in the community to make vaccines easily available during school and flu seasons.

I worked as a pre-operation nurse for the outpatient surgery unit at the Portland Veteran's Hospital which entails checking patients in for surgery, screening them to ensure they are compliant with pre-surgery guidelines, inserting intravenous catheters, maintaining patient records and documentation, and conducting research on patient instructions regarding post- surgery guidelines. In addition, I was taught to scrub into surgeries and act as the surgeon's assistant by keeping track of surgical implements, anticipating what the surgeon will need, and ensuring that they have it in a timely manner that maintains the flow of surgery.
