About Emily Kiefer, Mmt, Mt-Bc

As a board-certified hospice music therapist, I have the privilege of bringing music into the stories and lives of individuals and their families during end-of-life. For over 5 years, I have witnessed the powerful impact that music therapy can have to address physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. My approach to music therapy is person-centered and resource-oriented, building on each individual's unique identity and desires for their end-of-life experience. I use a variety of techniques such as songwriting, music-facilitated reminiscence, lyric analysis, legacy work, and relaxation exercises. In addition to my work with patients and families, I also enjoy supervising music therapy interns. I implement an arts-based approach to support a journey toward empathy, self-awareness, and skilled practice. I prioritize staying up-to-date on current research in music therapy, and I am currently pursuing advanced training in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music.
