A doula's role is geared to reduce your risks, increase your comfort, and provide you with physical, emotional and educational support. I use a variety of techniques to help your labor progress normally, reduce your pain and discomfort, and to help you make decisions about your care that reflect your values and needs. I encourage and assist you in having excellent communication with your care providers. Additionally, and unlike other caregivers during your birth, I'm with you continuously and focused only on you. I do not give medical advice, make clinical assessments or diagnose, or interfere in your relationship with your healthcare providers. I have experience with and specialize in caring for premature infants, multiples, trauma survivors and parents with postpartum depression. My approach is to support using non-judgmental evidence based information and care for families through these transitions. I strongly believe that all women should have access to compassionate support during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care. I'm committed to supporting all families who want a doula. Emily is committed to bringing these benefits of yoga to women and their babies with loving support, knowledge and experience on Thursday evenings. A mixture of styles influences her teaching: students will find a challenge in a strength-building vinyasa flow leading to restorative poses that bring a nurturing relaxation. Mothers will have the opportunity to tune into the sensations of their bodies and cultivate a relationship with their babies before they are born. Drawing on her experience as a doula, Emily will help mothers to prepare for their birthing experiences and to build community as they practice together. Beginners and experienced yoginis alike will find value in her practice.
