Music is the language that has flowed fluently through me since I was born, my mother tongue. Throughout my life music has been for me how I process and make sense of the challenges, joys and heartaches that come with being alive. I am able to connect to deep places and find courage and hope through the powerfully healing vibrations of music and I love to share that with others. Songs and instrumentals pour out of me regularly as it's my main form of journaling and processing life.I have been performing, teaching, and creating music for decades. I write and perform my own songs and instrumentals, lead vocal ensembles, and can play a diverse mix of instruments. I love to collaborate with other musicians, being “in the zone”, listening with plenty of give and take and space with others as we create sounds from the heart together. Born in California but a longtime citizen of New Zealand and now dividing my time between the UK and NZ, I've been sharing my musical passion with audiences around the world for many years. While my main instrument is piano/keyboard, I also enjoy playing the guitar, recorder, melodica, saitenspiel (a kind of lap harp), ngoni (African hunter's harp), kalimba, and a variety of weird and wonderful ethnic world instruments. And let's not forget the best instrument of all (in my humble opinion): the voice! I've played in many different bands and ensembles over the years, and have spent time recording music and writing and performing songs either on my own or in collaboration with other musicians. Most recently I've shared my own music at festivals and taught music at different learning institutions and in my own private music studio. I also love to work with people helping them to write their own songs and have been doing that for many years, whether for special occasions like weddings and anniversaries or simply to draw out the Individual’s unique expression of the heart.I am currently studying for my Masters in Music at the University of Southampton, an inspirational adventure of learning and collaboration."EmRiver has a distinct and recognisable sound, which comes from years of developing herself as an artist.
