Substance Use Prevention & Response Coordinator
Leadership position in the newly formed Substance Use Prevention & Response program, within the Health District’s Chronic Disease & Injury Prevention team. Provided leadership in the development of the program by assisting in coordination, research, planning, administration, and evaluation. Used a Cooperative Leadership model to supervise three staff through their subject matter expertise in substance use, prevention, education and response. Assigned responsibilities & tasks, projects and deadlines based on the employee’s strengths. Oversaw the Youth Commercial Cannabis Tobacco and Prevention Program (YCCTPP) grant. Ongoing and continuous partnership with Kitsap County Youth Services Department. Worked on opioid and naloxone education & prevention campaign for Kitsap County.Duties also entailed complex program management, with the integration of research and best practices including use of logic models, current local, state and national data. Developed Substance Use Prevention & Response Needs Assessment in partnership the with University of Washington’s Opioid Response Network (ORN) and internal stake holders (such as the Epidemiology and Public Policy departments). Created an interview template and facilitated 19 key stake holder conversations for primary Needs Assessment, in addition to developing and conducted surveys for individuals with lived or living substance use.Participated and led naloxone community trainings. Worked with Salish Behavioral Health ASO to determine locations of naloxone ‘vending machines’ in Kitsap County. Learned and used Public Health practices, including participation in the KPHD’s Community Health Assessment (CHA) convening of community agencies. Worked with local health jurisdictions, Kitsap County CARES and REAL Teams, and the Washington state Department of Health, including the Health Care Authority’s emerging Bridge Program, (medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD).
