About Emily Owens

As Managing Editor of d'Aulnoy Editions and Senior Editor of How2Conquer, an indie nonfiction publisher, I take a holistic approach to developing and promoting our projects, from project management, production and editorial, website and social media management, marketing and distribution, to company development. I have a love for layout production and precise content from my background in managing and editing print publications.I am the founder and editor of Palm-Sized Press, an indie publisher and online flash fiction community, and have previously been part of Mslexia, a UK-based major trade magazine. Having lived and worked in the US and UK, I have a creative mind and an adaptive and enthusiastic disposition. When I’m not geeking out over a good font or InDesign file, I argue with MadCap Flare.

Combining editing and design with the practical focus of operations management, I take a holistic approach to developing and promoting our projects. My responsibilities range from project management, production and editorial, website and social media management, marketing and distribution, to company development. I cultivate the look and feel of our books, with the knowledge that for any guide to be truly useful, the content and design both need to be accessible to target audiences. Recent work includes a project for two high-level account executives who want to share their professional knowledge; an advice book written by a member of the Atlanta School Board to help families become healthier and more active; and a short guide to irreverent witticisms and how to create your own by our Director of Content Strategy. From marketing plan development to implementation, I explore new ways to engage with and attract readers. In collaboration with the Director of Content Strategy, I enhance website SEO to improve organic search performances and site traffic. I also create shareable content for social media, pursue leads for collaborative marketing and promotion opportunities, oversee our Medium publication, and manage our distribution channels. I serve as our primary contact with associations such as the Independent Book Publishers Association and Nonfiction Authors Association.
