Hello! My name is Emily Begg. In 2019, I moved to Boulder, CO to explore a new state and the job opportunities it presented. Though I've held many different jobs, I feel most passionate about helping others and making connections that build up the community around me- no matter where that is! In April 2024, I stepped into the role of Lead Care Manager at Community Roots of Colorado where I manage a caseload of 15-17 clients and head our event planning committee. I am also exploring outreach opportunities as well as caregiver support groups in this new role. I worked for a local PASA for nearly 5 years when first moving to CO. I was able to build expertise in the I/DD community here and explore multiple roles including social media, residential care management and founded and ran the event planning committee. As a residential program manager there i managed a caseload of 15-18 clients where I supported those on the developmental disability waiver in improving their daily lives and meeting daily needs related to their housing and benefits. I was fortunate enough to have worked with most of my caseload as a Direct Support Professional in their home (also at KCS). In CA, I was working as a mental health worker for 4 years at a Board and Care facility in Santa Barbara (now PathPoint; fka Crescend Health/Phoenix of Santa Barbara). After graduating from UCSB in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, I volunteered at many organizations including, Peer Buddies!, Dr. Major's Self and Social Identity Lab, and SexInfoOnline.com which all aim to improve education in their own individual fields. My passion for learning and helping others fuels me and I am nothing but open and excited about new possibilities and opportunities!

In each of these positions, I dispensed and administered medications, documented clinical interventions, practiced de-escalation techniques to combat symptoms (both daily and during overnight shifts), led groups targeted towards improving ADL’s, organized volunteer opportunities to aid in vocational rehab, attended yearly trainings to stay current on items like HIPAA compliance, conducted and executed meal planning for 14 clients etc. As of August 2019, I will be moving to CO to pursue higher education and new experiences in the field. Working here for 4 years, reinforced the impact that direct care can have on an individual and has inspired me to pursue licensure in the upcoming years to further develop my education level and enhance the lives of others. The position, very versatile in its nature, would often change workshop by workshop; sometimes entailing empathizing with a student who was frozen with fear about their class's final research paper, other times arming a student with a few extra pointers on how to keep organized. The position was unique in that it allowed for each tutor to select their own areas of expertise to conceptualize power-point lesson plans on. My areas included workshops surrounding time management, note taking, multiple choice exams, writing papers etc. Overall, this position allowed me to expand the academic horizons of many of my peers as well as provide emotion support for those struggling with non-academic issues that were clouding their academic success.
