• Discovered a new pattern of phase amplitude coupling over posterior cortical areas during propofol-induced loss of consciousness, with clinical and theoretical implications for the sequence of brain states constituting loss of consciousness• Developed a rhythmic autoregressive model for neural activity under anesthesia, facilitating dynamic source estimation in the presence of spatially sparse neural rhythms• Mentored graduate students performing source localization, signal processing, and statistical analysis, including extending the autoregressive model and analyzing global coherence in intracranial data • Led a team to transition to a collaborative GitHub-based repository for the lab source localization codebase

Assisted two courses: 9.07 “Statistics for Brain and Cognitive Science” (undergraduate) and 9.073 “Statistics for Neuroscience Research” (graduate)• Taught a subset of the lectures, including: random variables and the classic discrete and continuous distributions, joint distributions and functions of random variables, conditional distributions and expectations, method of moments and likelihood estimation, hypothesis testing, the bootstrap, Bayesian inference• Graded problem sets and exams, held office hours, led recitation sections

Dissertation: “Characterizing dynamically evolving functional networks in humans with application to speech”• In collaboration with Drs. Uri Eden and Mark Kramer, developed statistical methods for the analysis of task-related functional connectivity with respect to dynamics, spatial scale, and uncertainty. Methods involved the detection of low-dimensional latent coupling between sets of recorded signals, e.g. multiple signals recorded within two regions of interest• Collected EEG data from subjects during imagined arm and speech-related movements and developed statistical methods to distinguish imagined movement from rest in real time• Analyzed ECoG data from an overt-speech paradigm for functional connectivity of speech networks

Assisted NE202 “Introduction to Cognitive Neuroscience” • Responsibilities included teaching a review section every week and helping to prepare the exams• Taught the lecture on the Amygdala and emotion
