Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, I studied at the University of Arizona, where I graduated in 2017 with a B.S. in Public Health with minors in Spanish and Business Administration. Having worked and volunteered in various healthcare and public health settings, I saw the need for high quality interpretation services for patients who do not speak English, especially immigrants and refugees. Spurred by this experience and wanting to contribute to changing that at the individual level, I moved to Madrid, Spain upon graduation to work as a teacher while taking Spanish night classes to reach fluency. I gained not only a second language, but two years of experience working in a culture other than my own, through which I further honed my cross-cultural and interprofessional communication skills. Now a few years into my nursing career, I take pride in being able to connect with my Spanish speaking patients and their families. I am passionate about reducing barriers to care and resources for all my patients, and am seeking opportunities that will allow me to continue to do so as I grow throughout my career.
