I am the energized and proud co-Founder and co-CEO of Mason & Rice, sharing these leadership responsibilities with my business partner, co-Founder and co-CEO, Valerie Mason Cunningham. Mason & Rice LLC is a global consultancy focused on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, with great emphasis on the word Belonging. Valerie and I created this firm to enable enterprises of all types as they seek to create and retain a diverse work force. Through facilitated learning, innovation, and process enhancements, our firm provides a unique and non-threatening approach to this challenge.Previously, most of my career was spent in general management, sales, and operational leadership positions at two companies: Xerox and Canon. From the President of a Canon company to the head of Xerox Global Account Strategy, and many other roles along the way, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to learn about inclusive leadership and experience the positive differences that occurred when teams were comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints. Having great leadership training classes and excellent mentors, along with day-to-day leadership experiences, contributed to the idea that belonging is a key factor in determining the success of an organization. We have all had the experience of not feeling we belong someplace; conversely, the feeling of being welcomed, of having your ideas appreciated, of having your distinct viewpoint valued often makes the difference in staying at an organization and creatively contributing for years or leaving to find a place where you feel valued. Outside of work, I can be found spending time on the Board of the International Women’s Forum, Chicago, a wonderful organization focused on “advancing women’s leadership and championing equality worldwide." When not working, I spend time playing keyboard in a rock n roll band and finding great places to listen to jazz in Chicago.
