Teaching piano has been a wonderful job to have alongside my studies. This role has not only provided me with valuable skills, but it has been a job I have enjoyed very much.I have also briefly taught as a cover piano tutor for a music studio.During my time teaching I have had the opportunity to support my students through their ABRSM grade exams ranging from grade 1-4.Tutoring has been a very rewarding role and I hope to continue implementing education into my career.

While carrying out my summer research placement within the ATLAS facility I was given the opportunity to be a student volunteer for the Science Insights programme 2023. This is a programme that runs yearly at the University of Edinburgh and allows school students to apply for a place to spend a week experiencing what it’s like to study science at Edinburgh! This is an opportunity that I was lucky enough to be a part of when I was in high school and so being able to take part as a student volunteer was very rewarding. Following my research placement I was asked to talk about my experience at the Medical Sciences yearly careers talk. A variety of students gave advice on gaining experience in science and overall it was a very informative and interesting evening, I was excited to be a part of it.

Last summer (2023) I was awarded a scholarship to undertake a work placement within the ATLAS facility at the University of Edinburgh, and following it I was given the opportunity to present my work at a poster presentation event organised by the biomedical teaching organisation. During my research placement I worked within the ATLAS facility to determine if the accuracy of physical characteristics impacts user experience when using 3D printed bone models as a teaching aid. We created a variety of 3D printed bone models and surveyed students and teaching staff throughout the Anatomy department to come to the conclusion that where user experience is concerned, texture appears to be a very important factor. Models with a rough and more matte texture are the most popular. These models have the potential to provide a learning resource for a greater variety of people, including primary school students, public engagement and patient education. This project gave me the opportunity to meet so many inspiring scientists and learn what it means to carry out my own research.The poster presentation allowed me not only to improve upon the skills aligned with presenting, but it gave me the opportunity to bring together and discuss my work. This was a lovely way to finish the project. I would like to thank my supervisor Stephen Maclean and everyone in the ATLAS facility for their support and encouragement throughout my placement.
