When I began my career as an elementary school teacher fifteen years ago, I was motivated by a desire to understand how people worked, and to use innovative approaches to bring out the best in them. Today, ten years into a career in product management, the same ideals still fuel my professional life. My background in education taught me to communicate both directly and with empathy, and to respond to others with curiosity instead of frustration. As I continued my career in product management, I developed organizational and managerial skills, becoming the person you always come to when you need a clear, new perspective, or the brilliant-in-its-simplicity solution to a challenging problem. Today, I am proud to say that my persistent curiosity about people and technology have informed my success in strategic discovery and roadmapping product solutions. In my current position, I have spent the past few years continually asking the questions, “What is the problem we are trying to solve? How do we know it’s a problem? And how will we know we succeeded?” I have asked these questions directly, through discovery, in Human-Centered-Design facilitated sessions, by shadowing customer experiences, by challenging our data partners to quantify a business problem, by connecting siloed teams in our organization and showing them that they are attempting to solve for the same problem in two different spheres. This approach has earned me a favorable reputation as a strategic connector and savvy business partner. I believe strongly in target-oriented organization and empowering team members in order to ensure success, cooperation and achievement of individual and team goals. I practice self-reflection and seek open communication with colleagues to ensure successful collaboration. I am passionate about mentorship: I manage my subordinates with mindfulness, and strive to be an example of the diligence and hard work I demand of them. I have been working and volunteering in dynamic diverse communities my entire adult life. I believe that the fabric of a community is woven with small deeds, thoughts and actions that come together to create an ever-changing but cohesive whole. I pride myself on my ability to connect with others, to listen truthfully and to perceive multiple perspectives.
