About Emily Wiberg Sode
As a UX / Service Designer, I believe that the best solutions are developed in teams where creative people with different backgrounds and experiences share ideas and learn from and support each other. Only through collaborative ways of working can we design the right solutions for our users, our employees, our organisation and our society as a whole.I like to use design to tackle some of the complex problems we face today. As a designer, exploring hidden connections in the systems that surrounds us helps me reimagine the ways we can interact with the world. For me design has the potential to build upon and support people’s capacity and capabilities for changing the world around them for the better. Through my empathy for others, I strive to grow day by day both as a designer and listener. My design experience includes work with both private and public sector organisations. I bring hands-on experience from every phase of the design process: from design research, planning and facilitating co-design workshops with various stakeholders, visualising and presenting findings, ideating new ideas and concepts, prototyping and user testing, UI design and implementation, to continuous product improvement post-launch. My core strengths lie in discovering and interpreting user needs based on design research and user feedback, and transforming these insights into tangible solutions.Depending on the project needs, I am able to craft design deliverables such as journey maps, service blueprints, design drivers and principles, wireframes, low and high fidelity mockups and prototypes, and pixel perfect UI designs that are both intuitive and user-friendly to use. 🎓 I graduated from ITU Copenhagen and Aalto University, with an MSc in Digital Design and Communication & a MA in New Media Design and Production with a focus on Design Research & Service-, UX-, and Interaction Design.😊 Thank you for visiting my profile. User Researcher Consultant
Evaluated and assessed the OmaStadi game’s impact on the overall inclusiveness of the first year of participatory budgeting (2018-2019), focusing on the challenges (limiting factors), strengths (enabling factors), and achievements (impact) of the game.Research data were collected through qualitative interviews with five civil servants in charge of facilitating OmaStadi, the main designer of the game, and four of the participating citizens. The impact of the game was analysed using five identified goals and subsequently examined using three democratic criteria for evaluating participatory processes: participation (inclusion), political equality, and quality of deliberation.Project results: Measured impact: Results indicated that the game supports the overall inclusiveness of the broader budgeting process, and contributes to making the gameplay, discussion, and idea development more equal for the citizens. The game also strengthens discussion between citizens, improves creativity, and enhances the overall quality of citizen proposals.Evaluation framework: The development of a broader evaluation framework with guidelines for how to plan, implement, and analyse further evaluation of the OmaStadi game. The “OmaStadi Peli Evaluation Framework” is designed as an iterative evaluation tool that introduces evaluation into a continuous cycle. It provides the City of Helsinki with a set of tools for monitoring and evaluating the game over a longer period of time as it can be used as part of the annual or biannual participatory budgeting process.
Service Designer Consultant
14 weeks project, working closely with four other designers, commissioners from The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry & Metsähallitus, and local stakeholders, to find a solution which addresses the unique potential of each Hiking area, alongside wider concerns regarding our current relationship to nature and biodiversity loss.Through 30 interviews with local stakeholders and ministry level officials, two field trips to the area and two workshops with local stakeholders, we found that Evo National Hiking Area is the centre of a huge variety of local educational activities. However, there was a clear lack of collaboration between the local stakeholders and no clear direction for the area.To raise the profile of Evo and improve collaboration and knowledge sharing, we suggested a new identity for Finlands National Hiking Areas, The Exploration Areas, which are research, ecology and education areas aiming at increasing knowledge about nature and sustainable resource use for current and future generations.By creating a clear educational focus, our project aimed to unify local stakeholders under one common purpose and provide people with a clear motivation for visiting the areas. By offering interactive learning opportunities, Exploration Areas aim to inform people about the inherent value of the natural environment and equip them with the skills and mindset to coexist with nature. More broadly we hope to inspire people to be actively involved in the upkeep of an environment where all forms of life can flourish. A value we see of increasing importance, and one that should be past down the generations. Results: Strengthened the collaboration between local stakeholders, visitors, and governmental officials • the project led to a proposal for the world’s first Science National Park in Finland, creating up to 1000 new jobs in the area.
Ux Designer
Project run in close collaboration with two designers and ABB with the goal of developing two design concepts, one applicable and one radical design, by defining experience goals and evaluating the resulting experiences with users. Results: Two concepts, one focusing on improving usability and accessibility issues in ABB’s Drive Composer Pro software, the other on redesigning ABB’s internal software development process.Concept 1: Drive Suite: Upgrading the Navigation and Linking the Community - an experiential redesign of the interface, navigation and Q&A features for the Drive Composer Pro software used by field engineers. This concept was created to facilitate experiences focusing first on competence, challenge and finally fellowship.Concept 2: ABB Development Community: Connecting the Field and the Factory - an experiential redesign of ABB’s development process. We suggested a redesign of the user engagement process could radically change the representation of user needs, wants and desires through developing a solution that facilitates a dialogue in the way user needs and requirements are implemented into the solutions that ABB offers. This concept facilitate experiences focusing on fellowship, challenge and finally competence.
