Emine Erden, Ph.D., Fulbright Alumna, is currently an assistant professor in Special Education Department, Faculty of Education at Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU). Before joining HKU, she worked at Hacettepe University and taught undergraduate level autism classes. She received Fulbright Cultural Exchange Program Award and completed her PhD in Special Education from Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) in February 2020. Her dissertation title is ‘’Social Engagement in Toddlers with Autism’’. The manuscript produced from her dissertation titled as 'Engagement between Parents and Toddlers with Autism: A Qualitative Multiple-Case Study' was published in one of the leading journals in Türkiye: Education and Science in January 2023 (https://scholar.google.com/citations?view_op=view_citation&hl=en&user=2OermY0AAAAJ&citation_for_view=2OermY0AAAAJ:ufrVoPGSRksC)Fulbright Cultural Exchange Program Award funded Emine Erden's studies for two years; therefore, after that she started working full time at IUB School of Education in Special Education Program. She taught undergraduate and graduate level classes as an Associate Instructor (AI); worked as a graduate research assistant (RA) in Professor Hannah Schertz’s Joint Attention Mediated Learning (JAML) project, a parent-mediated early intervention program for toddlers with autism, conducted across the three states; Indiana, North Carolina and Kansas. She coded (as one of the data coders in Indiana) parent-toddler interaction videos for four years. Therefore, Emine Erden loves to participate in the projects that involves data coding to keep her momentum active in coding.She also worked as a Teachers for All Learners (TAL, dual licensure program combining special and elementary education) program supervisor and supervised undergraduate students placed in rural and urban public school settings all over Indiana including Paragon, Bedford, B-town, Indy City for five semesters. She was awarded (2008-2010) by the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Institution (TÜBİTAK) to pursue her master's studies. She received an MS degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2010. She received a BS in Early Childhood Education (ECE) in 2008 and a minor degree in Sociology (concentrating on Social Anthropology) in 2007 at METU. Her academic research interests are social communication in autism, parent-mediated early intervention for young children with autism, early intervention/early childhood special education (EI/ECSE), and qualitative studies in special education.
