Having gained invaluable experience and expertise about the oil and gas industry during my internship with Petronas, I’ve applied my skills to provide legal assistance for a leading oil and gas distribution company Hakyda, with offices in Dubai, Turkmenistan and Canada. Responsibilities include but not limited to providing legal advice to members of the procurement team, as well as providing nuanced guidance about shipping across different countries and markets. This experience proves to be an important step to build a better understanding of the oil and gas industry before rejoining my Alma mater for my postgraduate degree.

As my graduate internship, I was fortunate to receive an internship opportunity from a leading Oil and Gas company in Turkmenistan. During the internship, I worked closely with the head of the legal department of Petronas Turkmenistan, as well as learning from the Legal Associates on-site. The experience is immeasurable considering that I’ve learned oil and gas regulations in Turkmenistan, as well as the regulations within the company. Due to my eagerness to learn and to deliver, I’ve had the opportunity to present multiple presentations in front of the Petronas team, and was mentored in drafting legal documents. Considering the importance of experience in the legal department of an oil and gas company, this opportunity surely has prepared me for future employment in this sector, and additionally it motivated for me to seek opportunities outside of my home country.

For the duration of my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, due to personal enthusiasm in basketball, I was fortune enough to start working for the Essex Rebels as part of the game day staff, and over the years progressed to basketball and volleyball play-by-play commentating. The supervisors and game day staff deserve a special mention for being a part of progressing the university to one of the university sports powerhouses as outlined in the Top 60 Sports universities edition.
