I am double boarded in General Adult and Forensic Psychiatry. I am also a registered Dietitian. My primary practice focus is treating each patient holistically: looking at medical, psychological, and social aspects of the presenting problem. The treatment plan includes psychotherapy and medication management, along with behavioral treatment (diet, exercise, etc. ) that is suitable to each specific patient's needs. My treatment plans are collaborative and include the patient's desires in the context of what I think is medically appropriate. My specialty is in treating higher functioning people, typically professionals that just want a higher level of functionality whether it is personally, or professionally. I also have a special interest in treating personality disorders, pregnant women with Psychiatric disorders, medically complicated patients with Psychiatric Disorders, and anxiety disorders such as PTSD. In my work as a Forensic Psychiatrist, I deal with all aspects of Psychiatry and it's intersection with the law (criminal and civil). Some areas of personal interest of mine are Psychopathy and the Assessment of Malingering. I work with and for Prosecutors, as well as, Defense Attorneys. I also have extensive knowledge and clinical experience treating patients within the forensic setting. I have been the Chief Psychiatrist at a State Forensic Hospital in North Texas, as well as ran a NGRI (Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity) clinic for years in San Antonio. This is a private solo practice providing General Adult Psychiatric care and Forensic Psychiatric services. My medical approach to patients is a holistic one. I am a Registered Dietitian, and also a Board Certified General Adult Psychiatrist. With this training and skill I use a combination of care to treat the biological, psychological, and environmental aspects of my patients' psychiatric illness to provide optimal results. I am also skilled in multiple psychotheraputic techniques (DBT, CBT, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy) and many times will use these in lieu of medication at the request of my patients.
